You may notice that many of my drawings include hands. Over the past 26 years I have worked part time assisting in EMG's at various hospitals. An EMG (ELectromyogram) is a test performed on patients to determine if they have any muscle or nerve problems. In preparation for the procedure I taped electrodes on patients hands or feet.I began to notice that hands told a story in themselves. I could tell so much about the person, the farmer's hands, the elderly grandma's wrinkled but loving hands, the newborn, who's hands still had the potential to choose how they would use these precious instruments.

The combination of hands and babies tell a story.

To capture these magical moments I use a variety of mechanical graphite pencils, ranging from H to 3B.Pencil has been a favorite of mine since my high school art classes (a very long time ago!) and it also provides me with a very forgiving medium.

A sharpened pencil tip is especially important to express the intricate details in a newborn's wet and wrinkled little hands and feet. The hard H pencils allow me to give the baby’s skin it’s soft newborn appearance.

All drawings are all done on Strathmore Bristol Vellum acid free paper.

I have so many ideas dancing around my head that still are eager to get out on paper. I will share these hand portraits with you as these ideas are brought to fruition, so come and drop in when ever you like.

I am by no means an expert and don't think that I will ever be! I am ALWAYS learning with every drawing that I do.
